The Gordonsville Friends of the Library Present: Author Talk by Alice Martin "Pathways to Publishing" Writing, Pitching, Selling a Book Tuesday July 9th 7:00 p.m. Gordonsville Branch Library 319 N. Main St. Gordonsville, VA 22942 Ms. Martin will discuss the publishing pathways available to fiction and creative nonfiction writers at every stage of their development.  She will cover everything from independent publishing and small presses to how to get a literary agent and pursue the "Big Five" publishing houses.  She will also discuss the tricky genre of the "query" or pitch letter. A laidback Q&A session about all things writing and publishing will follow, Alice Martin is a teacher and PhD candidate in English Literature at Rutgers University.  Before pursuing her doctorate, she worked in commercial book publishing at Writers House, Algonquin Books, and elsewhere.  Her own writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Carolina Quarterly, Appalachian Heritage, Flash Fiction Magazine, Reed Magazine, and Triangle House Review, amongst others.  Her debut novel, Westward Women, is also forthcoming from St. Martin's Press.  Alice lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband, her incredibly cuddly cat, and too many typewriters.
